Minutes from RI NEMBA meeting held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, 7 PM at Doherty’s. 13 members were in attendance.

  • Around the Room:President Matt began and everyone introduced and said something about themselves.
  • Treasurer’s Report: Listed below are some identified expenses:
  1. NEMBA Women’s Summit. RI NEMBA is sponsoring up to 5 women to attend the Women’s Mountain Bike Summit at Kingdom Trails in August. They must be a RI NEMBA member and be willing to share what they learn at the Summit with our Chapter.
  2. Meeting Street Donation. RI NEMBA will make an annual donation to Meeting Street School at their Annual Telethon at the end of the year.
  3. Arcadia Fun Ride Expenses.
  4. Lincoln Woods Fun Ride Expenses. It was suggested that RI NEMBA also make a cash donation to the RI Food Bank to supplement what is collected at the ride.
  • Big River Fun Ride: The Big River Fun Ride was held Sunday, July 16th and from all the positive feedback deemed very successful. Alan W. thanked Wayne A. for his assistance organizing the Ride. Thanks to Alan, Wayne and all the volunteers.
  • Intro to Trail Riding Clinic: The Intro to Trail Riding Clinic began on Monday, July 31 2017 at 6:00 pm at Lincoln Woods. Nick reported that James H. did a nice job explaining RI NEMBA and the goals of the clinic. We had a good turnout and it will continue on Mondays for four weeks.
  • Westerly Municipal Land Trust (Lucey Properties): President Matt reported that the land owners want people to use the property and are very pleased with our work and progress. Glen T. has another 2 miles of trails ready to be cut. Steve volunteered to have some signs for our next trail day which will be held on Sunday, August 13th at 9:00 a.m. President Matt reported that we could have 20-25 miles of trails when this project is complete.
  • Arcadia Fun Ride: The Arcadia Fun Ride will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2017. We will be using the same course that Jason B. designed for the fun ride originally scheduled in May
  • Lincoln Woods Fun Ride: The Lincoln Fun Ride will be held in November and as customary will benefit the RI Food Bank. It was suggested that we confirm the Land Managers at Lincoln Woods know that this ride is a food drive to benefit the RI Food Bank.
  • IT / Web Communication Items: President Matt and Nick will present a demonstration on Open Street Maps after the meeting. They suggested that everyone “Ride with GPS”.
  • Volunteer Opportunities: Chris H. volunteered to write the Single Tracks’ article due August 5th.
  • Area Riding Reports: Although the riding areas are in good shape, many areas in Big River and Arcadia are still overgrown and everyone should use caution when riding. It was mentioned that a couple of bridges in Big River need to be replaced.
  • New Business:

    • Alan W. distributed hand-made thank you cards to the volunteers present at the meeting from the kids at Meeting Street School.
    • Alan W. suggested (and we have discussed previously) that since Big River has had marked improvement over the years, that we plan to expand our clean-up efforts to other areas as well as leaving a small presence at the Big River Clean Up. We could divide and conquer. There was much discussion and suggestions regarding how and where to proceed.
    • Amanda R. inquired whether anyone was familiar with Neutaconkanut Hill on the Providence/Johnston line. She explained that it had a BMX track and a couple of cross country trails. There was some discussion regarding this location.
    • It was suggested that we order RI NEMBA T-shirts.
    • President Matt showed the NEMBA Ride Leader Jerseys ordered last year which we recently received.

    Next month’s meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 7:00 pm at Doherty’s.
    President Matt thanked everyone for their attendance and participation, and the meeting adjourned at 8:13 pm.
