July 2017
Minutes from RI NEMBA meeting held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, 7 PM at Doherty’s. 7 members were in attendance.

Membership Total: Not reported.
Topics:

  • Around the Room: President Matt began and everyone introduced and said something about themselves.
  • Treasurer’s Report: Bart A. provided the Board with the monthly Treasurer’s Report. Listed below are some current expenses:
    1. NEMBA Women’s Summit. We are currently sponsoring 4 or 5 women to attend the Women’s Mountain Bike Summit at Kingdom Trails in August.
    2. Meeting Street Donation. RI NEMBA will make an annual donation to Meeting Street at their Annual Telethon at the end of the year.
  • Big River Fun Ride: The Big River Fun Ride will be held Sunday, July 16th. We are still in need of several volunteers. Please contact President Matt or Alan W. if you are available to help.
  • Intro to Trail Riding Clinic: James H. reported that the Intro to Trail Riding Clinic will begin Monday, July 24 2017 at 6:00 pm and will be held at Lincoln Woods. It will continue for four weeks (7/24, 7/31, 8/7 and 8/14). Volunteers are needed for this event.
  • Westerly Land Trust (Wahaneeta Preserve) / Westerly Municipal Land Trust (Lucey Properties): President Matt reported that their first trail day in Westerly was very successful. 13 members volunteered and they made great progress. Glen T. has independently cut in 1 mile of trail. The land owners are very pleased with our work and progress. Our goal is to have one trail day per month and the next trail day will be held on Sunday, August 13th.
  • IT / Web Communication Items: President Matt reported that he is still trying to collect GPS tracks of Riding Areas for Open Street Maps.
  • Arcadia Fun Ride: The Arcadia Fun Ride will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2017.
  • Lincoln Woods Fun Ride: The Lincoln Fun Ride will be held in November and as customary will benefit the RI Food Bank. It was suggested that instead of an actual food drive, we should ask for cash donations so that the RI Food Bank can purchase the food that they need and doesn’t have to sort truckloads of food.
  • Trail Maintenance: Chris H. suggested having a poster at the Big River Fun Ride alerting riders to the overgrown trails and the potential for injury as a result. After some discussion and suggestions, it was agreed that Chris H. would create a poster for the Fun Ride warning riders of the overgrown trails and their consequences.
  • Area Riding Reports: Although the riding areas are in good shape and no issues were reported, it was noted that many areas are still overgrown and everyone should use caution when riding.

New Business: No New Business

Next month’s meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 7:00 pm at Doherty’s.
President Matt thanked everyone for their attendance and participation, and the meeting adjourned at 7:58 pm.
